Raised on a farm in eastern Kentucky Jim was your normal farmboy and did the normal farmboy things, chores.
After moving to Ohio in the mid 60's Jim developed a greater appreciation for the music that he grew up with in Kentucky.
After returning from serving Uncle Sam in the Army, Jim started picking the banjo and decided that playing music was even better than listening.
Jim's first band, in late 1968, was the CLIFTY MOUNTAIN BOYS.
He sang tenor and played the banjo in this group.
He then played with the BADLANDERS for a few years, Jim helped to form another group CLEAR CREEK
At this time he switched to playing the guitar.
Jim also played with the DIXIE RYDERS on 3 different occasions the last stint lasting over a year.

Jim is one of the original members of
FRIENDS IN BLUEGRASS.
